Located in College Street in the city of Sydney, Sydney Grammar School was founded in 1857. It comprises of a secondary school (7–12 age-group), one preparatory school in Paddington (K–Year 6) and a Preschool in St Ives (Year 6).
The academic curriculum is organized around the ideals of a liberal education. The subjects taught are broadly pre-vocational and various academic subjects. In the final two years, boys do not simply have to take English, Mathematics and Science for their Higher School Certificate, but also at least two humanities subjects.
In addition, the school offers a huge range of co-curricular activities and sports. Many classes at Grammar School are streamed, and much extension work takes place in a normal classroom context. Special extension activities in science and humanity subjects are arranged for boys who wish to pursue them.
Academic extension work may be done in a variety of ways. Some boys are given leave to attend special courses in time-tabled periods. Others work in their own time under expert supervision.
